Our Firm Seeks Experienced, Deportation-Removal Defense, Attorney 

The Terezakis Law Firm, PLLC, is an established, Nassau County based, immigration, crimmigration, and criminal defense law firm. We are seeking a committed, energetic, Spanish-English speaking attorney, with experience in deportation - removal defense, to join our team. For more than 30 years our firm has proudly provided high quality legal representation to Long Island’s immigrant community. The applicant should have at least three (3) years of deportation-removal defense experience, including, conducting bond hearings; trials involving Cancellation of Removal (EOIR 42A and 42B); and asylum, withholding and C.A.T. claims.  Prior criminal trial experience, whether as a prosecutor, or criminal defense attorney, is a plus, however the applicant must have prior experience in deportation-removal defense.   Experience preparing waiver applications; appeals to the BIA and P.F.R.’s to the Second Circuit; as well as familiarity with criminal-immigration issues,  is welcomed. Must be admitted to the N.Y.S. bar. 

Our ideal candidate is someone with excellent writing skills; who is responsible, dedicated, and detail-oriented; and who is at home in the courtroom.  They should be committed to providing high quality, innovative, legal representation, and to constant learning.  Most importantly, this person must have a deep personal desire to serve as a fearless and effective advocate for our firm’s clients. 

We do not have a “high volume” practice. Our attorneys and paralegals work together in a collaborative, team-based, approach.  We are committed to providing high quality, effective, and compassionate legal representation to our clients.  

We have an excellent work environment, with bright, windowed offices, in a nice office building, located several blocks from the Mineola, LIRR, train station. There is a cafeteria on site; free parking for our team; and valet parking for our clients.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage a caseload of deportation-removal defense cases.
  • Prepare bond applications and conduct bond hearings.
  • Prepare applications for relief, including: cancellation of removal for permanent and non-permanent residents; waiver applications; AOS, VAWA,  U-Visa, asylum, withholding and C.A.T.; and conduct individual hearings on those applications. Most of our cases involve clients with prior criminal convictions. 
  • Legal research and writing, preparing motions, memos of law, and BIA appeals. 
  • Tracking and meeting deadlines for submissions.
  • Working with, and supervising, paralegals to ensure timely and thorough case prep.
  • Conducting client intakes; keeping clients apprised of the progress of their case. 
  • Appearances before USCIS in the  New York Metropolitan area. 

Requirements:

  • JD from a U.S Law School.
  • Admitted to New York State Bar.
  • Fluent in English/Spanish, bilingual proficiency required. 
  • Excellent research and writing skills; preferably someone who enjoys writing.
  • At least 3 years’ experience with deportation-removal defense.
  • Commitment to high quality legal work and to winning our clients’ cases.

Compensation:   

  • Salary; Depending Upon Experience
  • 1/3 of legal fees generated from cases originated
  • 401(k) and profit-sharing plan 
  • 3 weeks paid vacation; 1 week personal - sick time; all Federal Holidays
